Dear Year 9
Welcome to our Year 9 options information page. I hope it will provide you with useful additional information to help you choose the subjects you wish to follow in Years 10 and 11.
You will know that a significant amount of preparation and research into your interests and possible options has already taken place (thank-you Miss Bushell). This is to ensure that we are able to provide the greatest possible range of options to meet the needs and interests of as many of you as possible. We have done this through a series of option choice simulations, the feedback from which has helped us to determine the final option blocks. We hope that you will be able to choose all of the subjects you wish to follow, but we also know from experience that some of these subjects may ‘clash’ with your other choices in the same option block. This is an inevitable fault of the options process I’m afraid, and one we have tried to minimize through our preparation process. These final option blocks cannot be changed, but we hope that they provide enough variety that you will be able to choose suitable alternative subjects if you need to.
Please be assured that we will continue to have discussions with you about your choices. You will also have an opportunity before the end of the year to have ‘taster’ lessons in your chosen subjects, and if you feel you want to swap subjects, you will be able to, provided the subject you are moving to is in the same option block and there is room in those lessons for you. Many people do this prior to the start of the GCSEs in year 10, so please don’t worry that you will be stuck in the subjects that you have chosen at this stage.
