On Wednesday the 18th of September, year 10&11 GCSE pupils from Ysgol Bro Gwaun travelled to Haverfordwest High School to attend the Young Composer of Dyfed workshop. They learnt of the composition skills needed to compose for Ensembl Cymru, which consisted of a Cello, Piano and Clarinet trio. The composer in residence Lynne Plowman went through the instruments techniques and range and pupils listened to performances by the group in many musical styles, in order to give them ideas for their own compositions. Pupils will now begin composing for this ensemble, with the hope of going through the stages of the competition and having the ensemble perform their work.
On Thursday the 10th of October year 10 and 11 GCSE Drama pupils travelled to Swansea to watch two performances. The first was a performance of their set text ‘Two Faces’ by Manon Stefan Ros. This was a unique and fantastic opportunity for pupils to watch their set text being performed like and to gain ideas for staging, acting and technical aspects ready to answer their written examination paper. The second performance was ‘100’. The pupils will use this performance to write their live theatre review in their written examination paper. Pupils were a credit to the school and a good time was had by all!
