Your ICT journey starts here...

ICT already has a heavy influence on people's lives, from internet shopping at home to sending emails in the workplace, and with this technology rapidly evolving it is now more important than ever to provide an excellent teaching environment for pupils to learn how to make use of this technology to the highest standard available to them. Join us at Ysgol Bro Gwaun to develop and enhance your skills.

At Ysgol Bro Gwaun we are working with our feeder schools to develop a transition project to build on pupil’s ICT experiences and the importance of Internet Safety.

Pupils will be creating their own pen portrait via OneNote before creating a short video to talk about their own top tips to stay safe online. These will be shared with their form tutors allowing them to find out more information about their form prior to them joining in Year 7.

At KS3 we offer pupils a wide variety of modules, focused on teaching pupils the fundamentals of ICT and Computer Science. These include:

  • E-Safety;
  • Desktop Publishing;
  • Communicating Information;
  • Data Handling and Modelling;
  • Computer Graphics and Animation;
  • Coding through Scratch and the BBC Micro:bit;
  • Video editing;
  • Web Authoring.

These modules offer pupils engaging and challenging experiences in line with the current curriculum, whilst preparing them for using ICT across the curriculum and the possibility of taking ICT at GCSE. The number of lessons in Year 7 currently stand at 1 per week, with Year 8 and 9 having 3 per fortnight.

At GCSE we offer WJEC GCSE ICT at both short and full course. It is taught by specialist staff in well-equipped ICT suites. As a GCSE pupil you will learn a variety of advanced skills using Web Authoring Software, Spreadsheets and Databases, which will build on your experiences of KS3.

Extra Curricular

OneNote Resource Bank

The final element of the course that we offer is our Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) through OneNote. This offers all ICT pupils instant access to lesson material and past examination papers. All assessments are completed and evidenced through OneNote and include DIRT (directed improvement and reflection time) to enable pupils to take their work forward based on a series of actions denoted by their teacher.

Here is what some of our pupils think.
