As a Department, we support pupils with their academic studies. We work closely with other staff, families and external agencies to offer personal and emotional support to individuals. We strive to ensure that pupils needs are met and that the best provision, wellbeing and care is delivered.
We work with the junior schools and/or the colleges, the educational psychologist, careers, staff within the school and external staff in order to provide the best provision possible. Equal opportunities are given to all pupils whatever the needs (e.g. autism, dyslexia, speech and language, hearing or visually impaired etc.)
Hafan’s Cosy Kitchen
A safe and quiet base for mainstream pupils at break and lunch times. Staff on duty to supervise and help with homework. Breakfast club is held daily from 8.15-8.45am.
LRC Unit adjacent to the mainstream, where pupils with intense complex needs are taught an alternative life skills curriculum. The County place pupils in Harbwr.
A small group of pupils receive extra basic skills. Language skills and confidence are also addressed. The core subjects are accessed in mainstream.
KS3 pupils receive support when needed within this small nurture group - academic, social and emotional support.
KS4 pupils receive academic advice when needed within this small setting, in order to support the GCSE work. We offer an alternative curriculum to individuals as needed.
With the help and advice of a learning support assistant, some pupils that access this referral unit work further on their interpersonal skills. Some have the opportunity to work with the youth worker and to go on work experience.
Screening & Exam Arrangements
Pupils are screened and tested. Where appropriate, access arrangements are put into place for external exams.
